Project Engagement Models
The choice of engagement model is a strategic decision that dictates, flexibility and alignment. Engagement models are customized to fit the stage and complexity of the project, ranging from flexible discovery phases to strictly defined execution.
Time & Material
Discovery and Planning: Initial feasibility studies, design qualification reviews (DQ) for new facilities, early-stage automation strategy development, and defining user requirements for new systems. It is ideal for complex, growing projects that require adaptability.
Fixed Bid
Limited flexibility. Changes to the original scope require formal change requests, negotiations, and potentially increased costs or timeline extensions.
Execution and Compliance: Well-defined deliverables such as developing specific CQV documents (e.g., Installation Qualification/IQ protocols), performing cGMP audits, or executing a specific phase of a Project Management plan. It is best when must-have features or tasks are clearly defined and set in stone.
Hybrid
A contract is structured to use T&M for certain phases and Fixed Bid for others. This allows for flexibility and predictability when needed.
Ideal for projects like the expansion of production capacities, process optimization in medical technology, or large-scale facility construction where early planning requires adaptation and later execution requires cost control.
